Why My Tesla App Not Updating & How I Fixed It

If you’ve ever found yourself frustrated with your Tesla app not updating properly, rest assured, you’re not alone. Dealing with issues like not being able to monitor your car’s status, location, or charge level can be a hassle.

As a driver who faces this malfunction, I can claim that you don’t need to worry about it. Because there is a really simple solution for the Tesla app not updating issues.

However, after encountering this problem myself, I’ve discovered some simple solutions that have helped me get my Tesla app back on track.  If you also face with tesla app not refreshing, here are the steps I’ve taken to resolve the issue:

  1. Uninstall and Reinstall the App: Sometimes, corrupted or outdated files can cause problems with the app’s functionality. To tackle this, I uninstalled the Tesla app from my device. For iOS devices, I tapped and held the Tesla app icon until it wiggled, then tapped the X icon to delete it. For Android devices, I tapped and held the app icon until a menu appeared, then selected “Uninstall.” After uninstalling, I went to the App Store or Google Play Store, searched for the Tesla app, reinstalled it, and signed in with my Tesla account credentials.
  1. Clear App Cache and Data: Clearing the app’s cache and data can help resolve performance issues. I accessed my device’s settings menu, found the Tesla app, tapped on Storage, and then tapped on Clear Cache and Clear Data.
  1. Check Internet Connection: Ensuring a stable and reliable internet connection is crucial for the app to function correctly. I switched between Wi-Fi and cellular data or used another device to test the connection if needed.
  1. Restart Your Phone: A simple yet effective solution is to restart your phone. This action can clear temporary issues that may affect the app’s performance. On iOS devices, I pressed and held the Power button until a slider appeared, then slid to power off. After waiting a few seconds, I powered on my phone again. For Android devices, I pressed and held the Power button until a menu appeared, then selected Restart or Power off and restart.
  1. Sign In and Out of the App: Signing out of my Tesla account from the app and then signing back in refreshed my account data and synced it with my device. I tapped on Settings, then Sign Out, confirmed, and signed back in with my credentials.
  1. Change Tesla Account Password: If all else failed, I considered changing my Tesla account password. This step could resolve any issues related to a forgotten or compromised password. I visited the Tesla website, clicked on Sign In, then Forgot Password, and followed the instructions to reset my password.
  1. Reload or Force Close the App: Reloading or force-closing the app can refresh its data and connection with my Tesla products. I tapped on Settings, then Reload, or force-closed the app according to my device’s instructions.

Additionally, I’ve learned some extra troubleshooting steps and information that could help others facing similar issues:

Activate Location Services: Enabling location services on my phone and adjusting settings to allow the Tesla app access can ensure smoother operation.

Update Tesla Software: Checking for and installing any available software updates for my Tesla vehicle through the app’s Software section is essential to maintain optimal performance.

Use Phone as a Key: If unable to use the app as a key, alternative methods like using a physical key card, Google Home Assistant, or reinstalling the app may be necessary.

By following these steps and staying informed about Tesla updates and their release dates, I’ve been able to keep my Tesla app running smoothly and enjoy all the features it offers. While encountering issues with the app can be frustrating, knowing how to troubleshoot and resolve them quickly can make all the difference in maintaining a seamless Tesla experience.
